Hippopotamus

(Hippopotamus amphibius)

Hippos usually feed at night close to the water holes where they spend the day immersed in water. This one must have been hungry to come out in broad daylight. When out in the sunlight (like this one), they become reddish colored as a result of secreting a reddish protective material from skin glands (Nature's sunblock?).  Note the cattle egret on his back.
