Yours truly

Northern Harrier

(Circus cyaneus)

This bird was hovering in a strong head wind, so I was able to focus and shoot. He was at a considerable distance, so even with my 500 mm (35mm equivalent focal length) telephoto, he was still pretty small. Taken at Pt Reyes National Seashore on 31 January 2004. Canon 10D digital camera and Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS lens at 200 mm plus a 2x Canon extender. ISO setting was 100. I initially misidentified him as an osprey, but Kayla Baker set me straight. Thanks, Kayla! Additional harrier images HERE.
