  Fall Color in Marin County

All of these images except the first one (Shed in the Aspens) were taken between October 6 and 10, 2004, in areas on the east side of California's Sierra Nevada. US Route 395 follows the east slope of the Sierra and we drove over Sonora Pass on route 108 to reach 395. From there we drove southward to Bishop, making short trips to several areas with major aspen groves as described in http://www.calphoto.com/fall.htm. We found a very helpful map to the 395 corridor called "Eastern High Sierra Fall Color Guide" in the MountainLight Gallery in Bishop. It covers all the major color points on 395 from Walker River in the north down to Big Pine in the south. It lists the Bishop visitors' bureau (888-395-3952), Mammoth Lakes visitors' bureau (888-GO-MAMMOTH), and Mono County (800-845-7922) as sources. It's worth a phone call to obtain one of these maps before you go!

The images were captured with a Canon 10D camera and several Canon lenses plus a Sigma 12-24 mm zoom for wide angle shots. (The first image was taken in 1974, in the Lake Tahoe area near the Northstar resort using film and Nikon equipment.)
