Yours truly

Face–to–face

These bears are very curious and would love to get up on the viewing platform with us. In fact, biologists sometimes interact with bears down at ground level and few attacks have occurred. Polar bears seem to be somewhat less aggressive than grizzlies even though they are a bit larger than grizzlies. Evolutionarily, polar bears are a very new species, and are believed to have split off from the brown bear (grizzly) only 40 or 50 thousand years ago. According to some sources, the species split is not yet complete because interbreeding, with fertile offspring, still occurs. That right front foot, by the way, is about 12 inches long by 8 inches wide and the claws are about 2 inches long.
