Humpback whale flukes

We saw lots of humpback blows, backs, and flukes, but no humpbacks breeching. Maybe next time! The flukes of humpbacks really are distinctive if you get a clear look at them. This one has a neat white spot on each fluke. Some have a salt-and-pepper pattern across the whole tail. Others have a completely black tail. An expert can identify a particular whale from a binocular or even naked-eye look at the flukes. For amateurs, a clear picture is the way to go. In addition to the humpbacks, we saw a Sei and several other species of whales in the Sea of Cortez.
