The above image was taken in a snowstorm. An elk carcass lies in the gulley at the right. The wolves are members of the Slough Creek Pack, 2005. Note ravens in the middle tree and on the ground.

This is probably the famous "U-black," so-named because she had a black U-shaped marking on her chest which faded as she matured. She is the alpha female of the small Specimen Ridge Pack.
Note the single black wolf partway down from the ridge above. The elk are unsure whether they need to be worried or not. The wolf spent many minutes howling from this spot.
