Maasai Giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis)
Note the bird riding on the shoulder of the giraffe. Most of the herbivores not only tolerate these passengers but seem to actually benefit from their presence. Presumably, birds groom insects and other parasites off the animals. We're not sure what kind of bird this is. It's clearly not a cattle egret, which is the standard companion of elephants and hippos. |
