Wildebeest Migration herd
In spite of the four zebras in front, the vast majority of this herd are wildebeest. Wildebeest are very efficient grazers and deplete the grass almost completely before moving on. Calves are born during the migration (which is a year-round process) and must learn to walk and run within a few minutes of birth. Bonding of mother to calf must also occur rapidly because females will not tolerate any calf but their own.
