Brant Geese
(Branta bernicla)
Brant, unlike Canada geese, are located almost exclusively along the coasts of North America but according to Sibley, are "rare visitors inland." Morro Bay Estuary claims to be the only significant site for this species in California and many were present when we visited in February 2004. They swam in convoys of 2 to 8 or more in the shallow water of the estuary.
