Red-winged blackbird males sit on reeds in marshy areas making their territorial claims as loudly as they can. There were a couple of them in these cattails at Audubon Canyon Ranch in Marin County, California when I saw them on 28 March, 2004. Image captured with a Canon 10D camera and 100-400 mm L IS lens plus 2x tele-extender at 600 mm focal length.
