American Avocet (Recurvirostra americana) The avocet is quite common in the marshes at the Baylands and at the time of this visit (April 25, 2005), were all in breeding plumage (cinnamon color of the head and neck). In addition to numerous avocets feeding, I noticed this nesting pair and witnessed their exchange of brooding duties. Several images, please scroll down.
