Ruddy Duck

I only saw two of these striking ducks at the Baylands duckpond and they were not willing to stay close to shore; thus only one image. Ruddy ducks are smaller than mallards and cannot walk on land or are extremely awkward (their legs are placed far back on the body). Note large blue beak, black and white head, and reddish-cinnamon body.
