Sandhill Cranes

(Grus canadensis)

These magnificent birds stand 4 to 5 feet tall and have wingspans of 6 to 7 feet. Whether foraging on the ground or flying, they keep up a constant conversation. When hundreds (or thousands) fly overhead talking to each other, the sound is other-worldly and overwhelming. See this link for our experience in Alaska.
