Surf and Stacks at Mendocino and Jughandle Beach

Mendocino Headlands, just outside the town of Mendocino, features a short fiord with a natural arch. Jughandle State Beach is a picturesque area with cliffs, rolling surf, and huge rocks jutting out of the surf ("stacks"). Several images, please scroll down.

Below, the surf and stacks at Jughandle Beach, with a gorse-covered cliff at the right.

Below, a close-up of a gorse blossom head. This introduced plant is very showy but invasive and endangers native species. It also sports viciously thorn-like leaves that can inflict a nasty scratch or puncture.
