Tundra Buggy Crossing a Pond
One of the smaller tundra buggies crossing a pond. We were in another tundra buggy crossing this pond in the opposite direction; that's why there is a photographer taking our picture through their front window. Wheels are 5 to 6 feet in diameter. The buggies don't float, so until very thick ice has formed, they are limited to crossing ponds not more than about 4 feet deep. Most tundra ponds are very shallow. The permafrost underlying the entire area is close to the surface and prevents drainage. |
