Ground Squirrel

(Spermophilus beecheyi ? )

There were several of these ground squirrels in the area in Zion Park and they look to me like California ground squirrels, (Spermophilus beecheyi). The problem is that my Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Mammals gives western Nevada as the eastern-most range for California ground squirrels. Maybe these squirrels were tourists.
