The Virgin River Exiting the narrows
At its exit from the Narrows, the Virgin River is only 10 to 20 feet wide. At the time we visited, the river was only 1 to 2 feet deep, and the the hikers seen in this image are easily able to wade up-river. During storms, the river fills rapidly, rocks and small trees are carried down the gorge, and there are no beaches or other places where one can escape. Therefore, hikers are always advised to obtain a weather report regarding the risk of hiking in the Narrows.
