Waterfall at Emerald Pools

This small waterfall and many others drain out of the sandstone; they are not surface run-off or streams that leap off cliffs. The sandstone is very porous and retains large amounts of water. As it seeps through the rock, it hits impervious layers and is force to move sideways. If that movement carries it to a cliff face, it emerges as a waterfall. As shown by the greenery, the areas below such cliffs are lush with plants.
