Rock Arch, Valley Of Fire
The Valley of Fire State Park, like much of the southwest, has massive sandstone outcroppings that have been eroded by water and wind into fantastic shapes. The high iron content of the stone gives it the vivid red color. This area was once part of a huge sea bed and then a desert covered by mile-high dunes.
