Waxing moon
A first-quarter moon (almost). E200 film, f12, converted to grayscale in Photoshop. Notice the dramatic improvement in contrast when the light comes from the side (compare to the full moon photo). (I see that some of the high contrast photos in textbooks showing the full face of the moon are stitched-together composites of two quarter-phase moon photos—to get around the lack of contrast in ordinary full-moon shots.)
